[EN] A novel colorimetric probe (P4) for the selective differential detection of DFP (a Sarin and Soman mimic) and DCNP (a Tabun mimic) was prepared. Probe P4 contains three reactive sites; i.e. (i) a nucleophilic phenol group able to undergo phosphorylation with nerve gases, (ii) a carbonyl group as a reactive site for cyanide; and (iii) a triisopropylsilyl (TIPS) protecting group that is known to react with fluoride. The reaction of P4 with DCNP in acetonitrile resulted in both the phosphorylation of the phenoxy group and the release of cyanide, which was able to react with the carbonyl group of P4 to produce a colour modulation from pink to orange. Quantitative data on the speciation of chitosan (310 kDa) with low and high molecular weight carboxylates in aqueous solution are reported. The following carboxylic ligands were considered: monocarboxylate (butyrate); dicarboxylates (malonate, succinate, azelate); tricarboxylate (1,2,3-propa- netricarboxylate); tetracarboxylate (1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylate); polyacrylates (2.0 and 20 kDa); polymethacrylate (5.4 kDa). Substituent effect on the redox potential of substituted (aryl)(2-nitrobenzo[ b ]thiophen-3-yl)amines

Abstract The electronic effect of some meta- or para-substituents on the reduction of the title compounds has been investigated. The reversible reduction potential values of these compounds have been evaluated by cyclic voltammetry at a mercury electrode in 0.1 M tetraethylammoniumtetrafluoroborate, dimethylsulfoxide solutions. The substituent effect depends on both its nature and its position. The reduction potential values of the derivatives studied have been correlated with the Hammett substituent constants.

Micellar liquid chromatography (MLC) was first proposed as an attractive alternative to avoid the use of organic solvents. It was soon apparent that pure micellar solutions yield poor efficiencies. This problem was remediated by the addition of a small amount of an organic solvent. Introduction: Publications arguing against the null hypothesis significance testing (NHST) procedure and in favor of good statistical practices have increased. The most frequently mentioned alternatives to NHST are effect size statistics (ES), confidence intervals (CIs), and meta-analyses.
